One Love
There are certain people you meet that steal your heart, leave a permeant impression on your soul, and completely change your life. I met my best friend when we were six years old, she became my sister and she became my other half. We got into all kinds of trouble growing up, fought like cats and dogs, but when push came to shove we were each other’s protectors. You picked on one of us, you got both of us. As we grew up our relationship strained but the quiet times between us sometimes said the most. Later in life we stood next to each other to celebrate our weddings and then to celebrate the birth of my children. She is truly just as much of a part of me as my right hand. However, as much as my right hand means to me, as much as my sister means to me something I value even more than those two things is ME!
Recently, I watched the movie Bride Wars and the quote at the end of the movie really struck a chord with me… “The one person who knows you sometimes better than you know yourself is the same person who’s been standing beside you all along,” is actually yourself! Sometimes it’s hard to know one’s self and a lot of the time it is hard to love one’s self but it is really the one relationship that needs the most work. Without self-love and self-worth it is hard to have long lasting, substantial relationships with people. To some this may seem selfish but if you do not take care of yourself it is really hard to take care of others.
This Valentine’s Day make time for yourself. Have a spa day, go shopping, take yourself out for a fantastic dinner or simply take a long bubble bath and give yourself a mani/pedi! But love yourself, take time for yourself, and know yourself and I think you will be surprised how the rest of your relationships flourish! Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at One Salon.
